Description:

This brass trap gun is marked "CHARLES LANCASTER LONDON/EST 1826" on the left side. The action consists of a sliding bolt that is held by a hinged and sliding catches. When the trap is tripped the sliding catch releases the hinged catch which in turn allows the bolt to slam forward into the percussion cap on the nipple at the back of the barrel. The trap itself is elevation adjustable and is also fitted on an adjustable brass tripod that allows for further elevation adjustments and rotation. The overall design is far more sophisticated and refined than most trap guns and was likely owned by a gentleman in its day especially given that Lancaster was known to have European royalty, Annie Oakley and other period celebrities as clientele.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The brass has a mixed patina with areas of almost blued appearance. Though there are a few nicks and scratches, the trap has very little wear for a field device and the action functions excellently. The markings and checkering on the tail are crisp.
