These pepperbox pistols were patented by Charles Converse and Samuel Hopkins in the late 1860s and produced by Bacon Manufacturing Co. under the Continental trade name; only around 800 were produced. It is designed with a round cylinder mated directly to a fluted barrel cluster and secured to the frame with a ring. The cylinder is marked "CONTINENTAL ARMS CO. NORWICH.C/ PATENTED AUG. 28, 1866." The serial number is on the rear face. It has a checkered hammer, smooth spur trigger, a loading gate on the right side of the recoil shield, flared butt, and a smooth pair of rosewood grips.

Rating Definition:

Fine. 40% of the original blue finish, concentrated in the barrel flutes, remain with a mixed brown and gray patina on the higher areas and some minor handling marks. 60% of the original silver plating with a dark patina is present on the frame. There is gray and brown patina on the exposed steel. The case colors are strongest on the hammer with most silvering out. The grips are very fine with most of the original varnish and some light handling marks. The action is excellent.
