This is an exceptional example of a late WWII German high turret sniper rifle manufactured by Mauser in 1944/45. It was converted to a sniper rifle and fitted with a Kahles sniper scope. The turret mounted rifles were one of the best WWII German sniper rifles and were in service from 1939 to the end of 1945. The top of the receiver ring is covered by the front turret, but it is probably marked "byf/44". The left side of the receiver has a single "eagle" firing proof/serial number next to a single "Eagle/135" Waffenamt proof. The receiver side wall is marked "Mod. 98" in block letters. The left rear of the barrel is marked with a Nazi firing proof followed by the serial number, and the breech end is marked "440891". The top of the rear sight base is marked with: "K/eagle/63/S42". The rifle has a milled trigger guard, floor plate and barrel bands. The rifle is fitted with an all blue sniper scope with matching numbered front ring (4584n) and is marked "cad" on the top (the wartime code for Karl Kahles Optiker). The range dial is properly marked 1-8 (100-800 meters), and it is numbered "45498" on the right side of the base. The rifle has the standard inverted "v" front sight and a tangent rear sight graduated to 2000 meters. The rifle bolt has a low scope, key safety lever, numbered "83". The rifle is fitted with a laminated stock and handguard with a smooth cupped buttplate. The right side of the buttstock underside of the buttstock both have a faint eagle proofmark. It is complete with a sheet metal front sight cover, a steel cleaning rod and a reproduction brown leather sling, rubber muzzle cover and winter trigger assembly marked "MOD 98" on the right side.

Very fine with 95% plus of the blued finish overall with some edge and high spot overall. The lightly varnished stock and handguard are both in very fine condition with minor handling marks and scratches and a small shallow gouge on the upper left side of the buttstock. There are also small pressure dents on the left side caused by the sling buckle. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
