Stevens manufactured approximately 2,500 of these No. 40 1/2 Pocket Rifles from 1896 to 1915. It is equipped with a fold down combination globe front sight, and fixed notch rear sight and a matching number (last three digits "230") peep sight mounted on the back strap. The upper left barrel flat ahead of the rear sight is marked "J. STEVENS A. & T. CO./CHICOPEE FALLS MASS. U.S.A.". The matching serial number is marked on the barrel and butt. The frame is nickel plated and the remaining parts are blue. Smooth two piece grips. Includes the original matching nickel plated wire stock.

Extremely fine overall with 90% plus original blue finish. The frame retains 85% plus original nickel. It displays small areas of light spotting on the barrel and frame as well as moderate handling marks. The stock shows thinning of the original nickel finish with areas of gray patina and mild spotting. Grips are excellent with good color and only minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
