Description:

Less than 1,200 of these Aircrewman revolvers were produced and most were destroyed by the U.S. Air Force when they were removed from service after some failed due to improper ammunition. Less than 50 are believed to have survived being turned into scrap. This rare surviving example was manufactured in 1951. It has the "PROPERTY OF U.S. AIR FORCE" marking on the back strap, Air Force inventory number "A. F. No. 41" on the butt, and Air Force medallions on the top of the checkered grips. It is marked "AIRCREWMAN/38 SPECIAL CTG" on the left side of the barrel and with the Colt address on the right but was used with the distinctive lower pressure .38 Special "M41" military cartridge. It has fixed blade and frame groove sights. The left side of the frame below the hammer has the Rampant Colt emblem. The matching serial number, which falls in the correct range, is marked on the frame and crane.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 95% plus of the original blue anodized finish with slight thinning on the grip straps, some edge wear, and a few scratches. There are some light rotation marks on the cylinder. The grips are very fine with mostly crisp checkering and a few minor marks. Mechanically excellent with distinct markings. Overall, an exceptionally fine example of one of the rarest of all Colt martial revolvers! One will look a long time to find another example.
