Description:

This revolver has a fixed serrated ramp with gold insert front sight and frame notch rear sight. It has been masterfully engraved with nearly complete coverage. The right side has been engraved with an eagle in flight and another in a nest; they have been engraved with a deep relief and inlaid in gold and silver. The left face is engraved with a small field scene of a small animal (probably a groundhog) inlaid in gold. These designs are surrounded by flourishes of tight scrolling floral and vine engraving with some deeper relief cut leaves and more gold inlay. The cylinder also has engraving and gold accents. The engraver's signature is found on the left face just below the gold animal at the edge of the frame and read "P.R. PIQUETTE" for past S&W master engraver and goldsmith Paul Piquette. The rear strap is inscribed "William J Orr" in golden script. William "Bill" Orr owned G.T. Distributors and was a major distributor of Smith & Wesson firearms. He also helped found the Smith & Wesson Collectors Association. The revolver may have been a sales incentive award or have been something custom ordered to suit his tastes. It is fitted with checkered walnut grips with inset silver S&W medallions and includes a blue S&W box numbered to the gun with cleaning rod and papers, a partitioned leather bound case in the shape of a book, and an extra set of grips. The unique serial number "R111111" is marked on the butt in gold. Matching markings are also on the back of the cylinder. Factory Engraved by Paul Piquette on personal request special-order for, William J. “Bill” Orr, founder and Chairman of GT Distributors, Inc., Rossville, GA & Austin / Dallas, TX, one of Smith & Wesson’s largest distributors of the past 45 years. GT Distributors has represented all the major firearms and security-related manufacturers throughout the company’s history and remains today as one of the nation’s largest full-line law-enforcement and security distributorships. Mr. Orr is one of the Founding Members of the Smith & Wesson Collectors Association and has been an active collector since the mid-1950’s.

Rating Definition:

Excellent as master engraved and inlaid. Aside from some slight aging of one of the eagles, the revolver displays only light collector type handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The box is good with some corner and edge wear. The "book" case is very good. This is a beautiful revolver inscribed to Smith & Wesson distributor William J. Orr.
