Description:

According to the included factory letter, Smith & Wesson produced about 5,500 registered Magnums before production was stopped because it was deemed to costly to manufacture the revolvers, which at the time sold for $60. This example is Reg. No. 4560 and was shipped on January 10, 1940, to the National Target Co. The order was originally for Roberto Zuniga & Cir. of Larado, Texas, and destined for Mexico, but this order was canceled and the guns were sold to the National Target Company with the gold bead front sights, square notch rear sights, blue finish, and checkered walnut Magna grips. The letter also states that this revolver was sighted in at 25 yards. Additional features include the checkered top strap and rib, serrated grip straps, serrated trigger, checkered hammer spur, "SMITH& WESSON" on the left side of the barrel, matching serial numbers on the cylinder, frame, and butt; and the trade mark and 'MADE IN U.S.A." on the right side of the frame.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 95% of the original blue finish with a drag line on the cylinder and some overall light handling/storage marks. The hammer and trigger retain strong case colors. The grips are very fine with minor handling marks. It is mechanically excellent and has sharp markings.
