This is a post-1902 Other Ranks cap for the 9th Royal Lancers. The skull, peak and top of the mortar board are black patent leather. The corners of the mortar board have gilt brass floral ornaments with the angled edges having smooth gilt strips. The sides of the mortar board are ribbed black melton cloth. There is a gilt metal rosette resembling coiled cord with a button in the center supporting a white over black horse hair plume. The waist has a guilt metal band similar in appearance to a semi-circular rope with each two sections bound together by a double rope. The gilt rayed plate has a King's crown at the top over two oval shields over the reversed "AR" cypher with 16 battle honors. There are two lion's head ear bosses supporting a leather backed chin chain. There is a natural leather sweat band and black fabric lining.

Good, the leather shows moderate crazing with some indentions and flaking. The peak is imprinted with the chin strap pattern. The gilt components remain bright with some wear on the high edges. 25% of the sweat band remains while a large portion of the lining remains with some stains. The chin chain has been lengthened with dissimilar links and has been resewn in a few areas.
