A) French Style Pistol

Manufacturer: French
Model: Percussion
Type: Pistol
Gauge: 58
Barrel: 5 1/2 inch round
Finish: blue/bright
Grip:
Stock: walnut
Item Views: 1064
Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 56
Class: Antique
Description:

This pair of coat pistols has faint lock markings which appear to read "CASSAIGNARI/A NANTES" ahead of the hammer. Nantes is currently the 6th largest city in France and has been inhabited since antiquity. Cassaignari is not a common name but does appear in French records. The pistols have smooth barrels with bands at the muzzle and slight indications that they were once embellished. The furniture is all German silver and displays a variety of martial themed relief patterns with textured backgrounds. A bust of a man is on the buttcap of each; the face of the bust on the buttcap is looking to its left on gun A and is looking to the left on gun B and each has slightly different attire. The patterns on the trigger guards include a bird. The pistols each come with a ramrod with flared tip on one end and differing cleaning tips on the other.

Rating Definition:

Good as refurbished. 30% of a thinned artificial patinated finish is present on the barrel along with some faint traces of golden plating on the muzzle and breech. The lock has been cleaned to mostly bright with partially obscured markings and traces of golden plating under the bolster. Both the lock and barrel have some spots of minor pitting. The German silver components have a slightly matte appearance. The revarnished stock is good with some repairs and light scratches. The left side buttcap tang is loose. The action is fine.

Rating Definition:

Good as refurbished. Very similar condition to gun A but with less of the blue finish remaining on the barrel, and the trigger guard partially loose but the buttcap tang correctly fitted.
