A) French Pistol

Manufacturer: French
Model: Flintlock
Type: Pistol
Gauge: 45
Barrel: 1 3/8 inch round
Finish: bright
Grip: walnut
Stock:
Item Views: 1323
Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 56
Class: Antique
Description:

This pair of "muff" pistols was likely manufactured by Boutet at Versailles at the end of the 18th century or beginning of the 19th and is nearly identical to the pair of Boutet pistols pictured on page 40/22A of THE MANUFACTURE D'ARMES DE VERSAILLES by Dean Taylor. The pistols are marked "Manufre" on the left side of the action and "de Versailles" on the right and have some light engraving accents including animal faces on the bottom of the goose neck cocks. The barrels turn off for easier reloading and ensure a tighter seat which creates greater velocity from the short barrels. The walnut grips are checkered. The triggers fold for easier concealment and open when the pistols are cocked.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The metal surfaces are partially bright with a gray patina forming and light pitting. The designs and markings are clear. The grip is very good with crisp checkering and some slight cracks/chips on the edges. The action needs some adjustments.
