Description:

This pepperbox was likely produced for or by Orison Blunt and John G. Syms of New York in the late 1830s to the 1850s. It utilizes a concealed underhammer mechanism actuated by the ring trigger and has the engraving style commonly seen on pepperboxes bearing their name. While no maker's marks were found the matching number "45" is marked at the muzzle and on the left side of the grip straps. The muzzle is also stamped "R-C", and a crudely applied non-factory "3/33" stamping is found behind the trigger. It has a pair of smooth bag shaped grips and no sights.

Rating Definition:

Very good as period refurbished. The finish has faded and is now mixed with an established brown patina with some streaks of darker blue and nickel plating, several light scratches, and some small nicks. The grips are very good with some pressure marks and otherwise smooth glossy surfaces. The action is excellent and the engraving mostly crisp.
