Description:

Approximately 20,000 of these revolver were manufactured from 1861 to the mid-1860s with approximately 12,000 made on government contracts and the balance of the sales primarily civilian. This revolver is a civilian sales example with the standard three-line address and patent markings on top strap, the serial number on the frame under the grip and no sub-inspector's marks. This unusual revolver employs Henry S. North's patent whereby the cylinder is first pulled to the rear by the large ring trigger and then rotated and moved forward to lock over the rear of the barrel. The hammer is cocked at the same time. The action is fired by pulling the upper trigger. It has a post front sight and "V" notch rear sight and is fitted with smooth walnut grips hand numbered to match the serial number marked on the lower right side of the grip frame.

Rating Definition:

Fine. 40% of the blue finish remains with most of the remaining finish found on the barrel and cylinder and a primarily mixed brown patina on the frame and exposed surfaces. The hammer, trigger group and loading lever retain over 75% of the brilliant case colors. The grips are fine with some small pressure marks and a few scrapes. The action is excellent and the markings are crisp.
