Description:

Manufactured in 1896 and not shipped until 1899. Standard two line address on the top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight and "25-20" at the breech. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1892/-WINCHESTER-/PAT. OCT.14. 1884.", and the serial number is on the underside of the receiver. German silver blade front and adjustable rear buck horn sights, blue finish with casehardened hammer, lever and buttplate, full length magazine tube, and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with steel end cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The accompanying copy of a Cody Firearms Museum Records Office form verifies the caliber, octagon barrel, plain trigger, that the serial number was applied on 5-3-1899, it came in on 5-22-1899 and was shipped to order number 29167 on 6-1-1899.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The rifle retains 95% original blue finish with some muzzle and high edge wear, a number of small scratches on the receiver and some minor oxidation. The lever shows traces of original case colors in protected areas, a mottled gray patina, and some light oxidation on the balance. The wood is also very fine with some scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
