Description:

Between 1915 and 1917 Winchester manufactured approximately 300,000 Model 1895 chambered for the Russian 7.62x54R cartridge and equipped with stripper clip guide "ears". It has a pinned Sheard blade/bead front sight and folding ladder rear sight graduated 15-32 on the ladder and 6-14 on the stepped base. The frame at the breech is marked with the WP proof and "7.62/M.M." while the left side is marked with the two line address and patent information. The upper tang has the model and trademark information. It has a nearly full length walnut forearm with grasping grooves, military style hand guard, and straight wrist stock. The front band has a bayonet lug and sling swivel while a second swivel is mounted to the rear strap and the magazine and butt have swivel studs. The crescent buttplate has a compartment containing the cleaning kit and combination tool.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. This rifle retains 80% plus of the original blue finish with some flaking on the barrel bands and action and rub wear on the buttplate. The exposed surfaces have taken on a brown patina and there are a few minor scratches. The wood is very fine with only some minor dings and scrapes. Mechanically excellent with crisp markings throughout. One never encounters one of these in this condition as nearly all saw extensive rough usage by the Russian military!
