Description:

The Burnside Rifle Co. of Boston produced 34,000 of these carbines with identical features to the standard Model 1865 aside from the additional Burnside markings and a three groove instead of six groove rifling. The U.S. government purchased 30,502 of these carbines and the remainder are presumed to have gone to state and territorial militias. None arrived in time for use during the Civil War, but they were used in the Indian Wars such as the Comanche Campaign. This example has the standard markings and features along with "U.S./COL. TER" double stamped on the left side of the butt. The Territory of Colorado had the same boundaries as the current state and existed between 1861 and 1876. The stock also has two crisp cartouches by the saddle ring bar base and a "JHC" stamp by the buttplate tang.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The carbine retains 70% of the thinning blue finish on the barrel and 60% plus of the slightly muted case colors on the remaining components. There is some areas of light spotting. The wood is also very fine with some slight scrapes and pressure marks. The action is excellent, and the markings are crisp.
