Description:

Springfield Armory only produced 1,001 of these rifles in 1880. They were the first of the trapdoor series to utilize the ramrod bayonet. This example falls towards the beginning of the known range and has the standard Springfield markings including the correct "SWP/1881" cartouche on the left side of the stock which has a compartment in the butt containing two tools. It has a pinned blade front sight, folding ladder/notch rear sight, and a triangular ramrod bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The rifle retains about half of the fading original blue finish and case colors with some light spotting. The stock is fine as reoiled with some small pressure marks and slight scratches. The action is excellent, and the markings are crisp throughout.
