Description:

Manufactured from 1836 to 1844 with a total production of about 41,000. The lock is marked eagle head over "A. WATERS/MILBURY. MS./1843" in front of the hammer, and the breech end of the barrel is marked "U.S./JH/P". It has a brass blade front sight and dished oval shaped rear sight on the barrel tang. The ramrod is the steel swivel type with a button shaped head. The barrel band has a strap extension which joins the side plate and the back strap is integral with the buttplate and extends up the back to the barrel tang. The stock has two cartouches on the left flat. These pistols were standard issue during the Mexican War and continued to see use during the Civil War with many converted to percussion in the 1850s.

Rating Definition:

Good. The pistol has a mottled brown patina with some oxidation, marks, and minor pitting. Some of the metal remains bright in the protected areas. The jaw has some bright oxidation. The wood is very good with faint cartouches and some minor scratches and dings. Mechanically fine.
