Description:

Pomeroy manufactured 21,600 Model 1816 Muskets under government contract between 1817 and 1836. This example falls at the end of that range and is marked "1836/US" on the tail of the lock plate and "eagle/L. POMEROY" at center. The barrel tang is also dated "1836", and the barrel is marked with "US/TW/P" proof/inspection marks. There is a partially obscured cartouche on the left side stock flat. It has a in integral front sight on the barrel band, bayonet stud, sling swivels on the middle band and trigger guard, and a trumpet head iron ramrod. The straight wrist walnut stock has a "US" marked buttplate and some unclear small stamps.

Rating Definition:

Very good as assembled/refurbished. Most of metal surfaces have a light brown patina with spotting, light pitting, and scattered marks. The trigger guard has a darker brown patina. The removable brass flash pan has been somewhat crudely reshaped and the top jaw is a crude replacement. The touch hole appears to be of proper Flintlock design. The wood is very good as re-oiled with some chips and scrapes. The action remains excellent. The markings, aside from the exceptions noted above, are crisp.
