Description:

This revolver was manufactured in 1887 and has the "D.F.C." initials of ordinance inspector David F. Clark ahead of the serial number on the frame and on the barrel which also has a "P" stamp slightly ahead. This revolver would have been one of the last firearms inspected by Clark given that he retired in 1887 after having served as an inspector since 1861. The visible serial numbers match on the frame, trigger guard, cylinder (partial), and on the rear strap. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line Hartford address and is fixed with a blade front sight. The left side of the frame has the three line, three date patent information followed by "US". The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "1109". It has the correct bullseye ejector head. Many Single Action Army revolvers produced in this period were issued and used during the Spanish-American War. Some serial numbers of the Artillery Model variant used by the Rough Riders were likely produced on the same day as this example based on known serial numbers.

Rating Definition:

Good. The revolver has a well aged appearance with patches of oxidation and pitting and a mottled dark brown patina overall. The grip is also good with some scrapes and lower edge wear. The action needs some work as it will not quite lock up. The barrel address is faint, but most of the markings remain clear.
