Description:

This is an exceptionally nice very early cased Colt London Model 1877 Double Action revolver that was manufactured in 1878 and is complete with a Colt factory letter dated May 1987. This wonderful pistol has the very rare "etched" barrel panel on the left side with the rare "London Pall Mall " address. The factory letter verifies the exact configuration of the pistol and lists it as 1 of 60 pistols shipped to the Colt Pall Mall London agency in Oct 1878. It comes with its original Colt oak storage/display case. As noted, the pistol has the rare, small two-line address of: "COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A./Dept. 14. PALL MALL LONDON." on the top of the barrel with the "etched" barrel panel on the left side marked: "COLT D.A. 38". The left side of the frame has the three-line patent dates, and "38 CAL" is stamped on the left rear trigger guard bow. The cylinder has the long flutes and a "Crown/V or Crown GB" behind each flute. The same proofs are on the lower left side of the barrel. The serial number "7102" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap, and the cylinder is numbered "102". The assembly number "506" stamped on the loading gate. It is fitted with a smooth one-piece grip (that are not listed in the letter, but they are original to the revolver). The English oak case has a brass unmarked shield on the lid. The case has a forest green lining with five compartments and one oak cartridge block and comes with cartridges. The case heads are marked "W.R.A. 38 S&W".

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall with 85% plus of the original blue finish on the metal parts showing some flaking and light wear from use and handling with the frame and hammer showing 85% of the original case colors overall, that are fading with more vivid colors in the protected areas, that is mixed with a gray patina. The grip is in very fine condition with a beautiful aged yellow appearance, and fits perfectly on the back strap, trigger guard and frame. The exterior of the case is also in very fine condition with a nice varnish finish overall showing light handling marks. The corners are intact with some minor separation starting to show. The green relined felt on the underside is mostly intact with some wear along the edges. This is a very nice looking, all original, high end cased Colt London Agency Model 1877 Double Action revolver.
