This Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action rifle was manufactured in 1891 and has several special order features including:(1) 26 inch full octagon barrel, (2) half-magazine, (3) Lyman "Jack" front sight with colored bead and (4) single set trigger. The barrel is fitted with a buckhorn style sporting rear sight with screw adjustable center notch. The upper receiver tang is factory drilled and tapped. The rifle has a blued barrel, bolt and loading gate. The receiver, hammer and crescent buttplate are color casehardened. The stock and forearm are straight grain American walnut with a varnish finish. The rifle is accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum search form which confirms the special order features noted above and states that this rifle was shipped from Winchester on September 21, 1891. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped: "-MANUFACTURED BY THE- / -WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber designation: "40-65 W.C.F." is roll-stamped on the top barrel flat between the rear sight and the receiver. The upper tang is roll-stamped: "-MODEL 1886-" in one line, and the lower tang has the 1884 and 1885 patent dates stamped behind the trigger. The serial number "62213" stamped behind the rear tang screw.

Very fine. The rifle is all original and retains 85% plus of the blue and 70% color casehardened finish. The barrel has most of the blue finish with some wear on the muzzle and barrel edges. Nearly all of the blue finish is present on the bolt and loading gate. The sides of the receiver have strong case colors. The case colors on the edges of the receiver and contact points on the receiver bottom have faded to a silver-gray patina. Most of the case colors are present on the hammer and lever. The case colors on the buttplate have faded to a silver patina with some scattered patches of age discoloration. The stock and forearm are in very good-excellent condition. The finish on the forearm has dulled slightly from handling. The stock retains nearly all of the original finish with a few minor dents and storage marks. This is a very fine example of a Special Order Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action rifle with desirable color casehardened receiver.
