This is a fantastic, all original, example of a DWM Model 1923 Stoeger American Eagle marked Commercial Luger Artillery pistol in the Mauser serial range. These American Eagle Lugers were the very first Stoeger Lugers made expressly by DWM under contract for the Stoeger Arms Company in New York for import into the United States in the early 1920s. Although it is estimated that over 1000 of this model were made, they are very scarce today, especially in this original, high end condition. Even more rare is the fact that this is one of the original Artillery models which are very rarely seen. The chamber is marked with the American Eagle crest with the DWM logo on the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension is roll marked "GERMANY" over the ejector spring and "A.F. STOEGER INC./NEW YORK." in front of the spring. The right side frame rail is correctly roll stamped in small letters "GENUINE" and after that in slightly larger lettering it is marked "LUGER - REGISTERED U.S. PATENT OFFICE". The front of the frame is also stamped with a very small "GERMANY" below the serial number. It is correctly marked "SAFE" and "LOADED" in the safety area and on the extractor respectively. The pistol is stamped in the very late Mauser commercial serial number range with the front of the frame stamped with the full serial number "90099". The side plate, side of the breech block, take down lever and trigger are correctly stamped with "99". All the other parts are unnumbered. The underside of the barrel, left side of the barrel extension, and side of the front toggle are all stamped with only a commercial "Crown/N" proofmark with no other proofs or serial numbers. It is complete with one early wooden base magazine. The magazine body has been polished and the wood base is unnumbered or proofed. A similar DWM model 1923 American Eagle with "A. F. Excellent plus with 99% of the original blue finish overall with only edge and high spot wear. The various smaller parts retain 98% of their straw colors overall. The walnut grips are also in excellent condition. A near new original example of a rare A.F. Stoeger American eagle Artillery luger pistol.
