Desirable World War II Fully Automatic Class III Auto-Ordnance Model 1928A1 Thompson Submachine Gun with Two Magazines

This is a very nice example of an early Model 1928 A1 Thompson submachine gun that was manufactured by the Auto-Ordnance Company under contract for the U.S. Military that has subsequently been refurbished for Korea or Vietnam. This weapon was originally manufactured circa 1942 under military contract as it has the U.S. Ordnance cross-rifle stamp over the initials "W.B." for Waldemar Broburg, the US Ordnance inspector in the NY/Conn. District. It has the late wartime features such as the; short 10 1/2 inch with no-cooling fins on the barrel, the parkerized "CUTTS" marked Thompson/Auto-Ordnance patented compensator on the end, the later horizontal forend but still has the detachable buttstock with the "L" type, non-adjustable Lyman stamped war-expedient rear sight. The receiver is marked with "US MODEL OF 1928 A1/NO. AO 127220" and farther back "THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN/CALIBER .45 AUTOMATIC CARTRIDGE. The obverse is marked in two-lines "AUTO-ORDNANCE CORPORATION, BRIDGEPORT CONNECTICUT USA" The top of the receiver is stamped with the "Auto-Ordnance/Thompson Bullet" logo. The underside of the lower trigger housing is correctly numbered "No.S-175035". As noted above the upper left side of the receiver is stamped with the U.S. Ordnance cross-rifle, final cartouche/"W.B." which are the initials for Waldemar Broburg the US Ordnance inspector. This desirable Thompson SMG is complete with two blued WWII type 20 round stick magazines.

ConditionVery fine with 95% of its arsenal refurbished gray parkerized finish overall showing only minor edge wear. The walnut wood components, buttstock, pistol grip and fore grip are all in very fine condition with a nice medium color overall with only minimal handing marks which may indicate they were refurbished or replaced when it was overhauled. A great looking very functional WWII Auto-Ordnance Thompson submachine gun. Note: This item is restricted as a National Firearms Act (NFA), Fully Automatic Weapon that is currently registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (BATF&E) that has been classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
