Description:

This lot contains a rare 1st Special Service Force U.S. enlisted service uniform. Known as the "Devil's Brigade", the 1st Special Service Force was a joint World War II American-Canadian commando unit organized in 1942 and trained at Fort William Henry Harrison near Helena, Montana. The brigade fought in the Aleutian Islands, Italy, and southern France before being disbanded in December, 1944. The U.S. Army Special Forces trace their origin to this unit. The jacket has the FSSF arrowhead shoulder patch, U.S. Army brass buttons, rare enlisted crossed arrows and U.S. collar insignia, ruptured duck above the right breast pocket and jump wings over 5 service ribbon ribbons (Bronze Star Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal) above the left breast pocket. The left sleeve has one service stripe and 4 overseas service bars. Also with the jacket is a size 15 1/2, 33 long sleeve uniform shirt, Goodall Co. size 34x33 trousers, and a reversible hooded parka, one side green and the other white, with brown fur trim around the edge of the hood, green/white plastic buttons, green cord draws at the waist and hood, and button-adjustable collars. No maker's markings or labels are present.

Rating Definition:

The jacket is very fine showing a few scatter moth holes and a 1 inch long tear near the lower right pocket. The shirt is also very fine with a couple of stitched repairs. The pants are very good with a few scattered stains and moth holes. The parka is very good with some light stains and a few areas of loose/rough stitching, especially on the white side.
