Description:

Marked "WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO" on both locks. The long two part marking on the barrel reads "WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO LONDON, MADE FOR P. ORR & SONS MADRAS-----FOR W.R. No. 2 EXPRESS CARTRIDGE 500 BORE 125/365". P. Orr & Sons was a renowned retailer and timepiece maker based in Madras, India, known primarily for fine watches as well as tableware and firearms. Once owned by Scottish immigrants seeking fortune at the edges of the British Empire, it is still in operation under Indian ownership. The barrel has a small bead front sight and folding two leaf express rear sight on a wide solid rib. The barrels have Metford style rifling. The back action features an underlever and double triggers. It is mounted on a multipoint checkered splinter forearm and round knob pistol grip stock with a checkered horn buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fair with moderate to heavy pitting overall and traces of casehardened finish on the frame. The folding leaf on rear sight is frozen in the down position. The barrel legend is pitted but still legible. The stock has been repaired and refinished but signs of water damage remain as do some light sanding marks. Mechanically fair: the right hammer will not hold at the full cock position and needs some adjustment.
