Description:

This is an excellent original example of a desirable early-production DWM Model 1900 Commercial Luger pistol that has very unique late production safety markings. These pistols were the true first commercial contract Luger pistols produced by DWM and can be found in the 2000-19000 serial number range. Normally, these Lugers had the first style safety with the lower safety area brightly polished. However, this example has the very late third pattern safety markings which consists of the word "GESICHERT" marked in the lower safety position. This safety markings was not used until the 1914 models were adopted. It has the standard blank chamber area with the DWM logo on the front toggle. Interestingly, this early pistol has no inspection or firing proofs on any of the parts. This pistol retains early Luger features such as the early long frame, dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, recessed breechblock, 4 3/4 inch fast tapered barrel, grip safety and no stock lug, and this example has been fitted with the hold-open device. The early Lugers have a pre-war rust blue finish with the straw colored small parts and checkered walnut grips. The lower safety area is was milled out and marked as noted above and the correctly "rust blued" right along with the frame during normal production. It is correctly serial numbered in the commercial fashion with the serial number "8618" stamped on the front of the frame and under the barrel and the last two digits "18" stamped on the various smaller parts. It is complete with one original nickel plated magazine with an unnumbered wooden base.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 90% plus of the blue finish overall and only very minor edge and high spot wear. The smaller parts retain 60% plus of their straw colors with most of the fading on the lower safety lever and face of the trigger. The grips are in excellent condition with nice sharp distinct checkering on both sides and some light wear across the top of the checkering. An interesting early commercial Luger with unusual safety markings in excellent condition.
