Description:

Measuring 25 inches wide and 13 1/4 inches tall this sign was rendered in iron, with the center dominated by a large Germanic eagle which has been painted in fine detail. Riveted to the breast are two ribbons, "HJ gruppe" (note: spelled with an umlaut over the "P", and not the "U") and "Hoch land", and riveted to the ribbons is a bright red Hitler youth diamond with a cut-out swastika. The backside of the eagle has also been painted and the outer border has been actively hammer peened. Multiple mounting options are present including a bolt hole in each corner, a pair of hanging chains in the top corners, and hooks on the back of the top and sides. Records show the existence of more than one "Hochland" (highland) HJ unit; notes from the consignor attribute Hochland groups as being a source of a number of recruits for the Heer's Gebirgsjaeger divisions and speculate that the sign may have hung over the entrance to a sport field or wilderness area.

Rating Definition:

Very good with a deep brown patina on the exposed iron and over 85% of the original paint finish. A bend is present in one of the left feathers of the eagle otherwise the metal is in good shape. A protective coat of varnish applied overall.
