Description:

Produced without makers marks, the lion's share of the dagger is of an Imperial "Kaiserliche Marine" style with the pommel being of the later, Nazi "Kriegsmarine" regulation; while no documentation was provided with the dagger, it is possible that the dagger was issued to a man who started his career in Imperial Germany and continued it through the Weimar Republic and into the Third Reich, a relatively common occurrence due to the terms of the Versailles Treaty, which mandated a minimum 25 year service period for German officers. The dagger is 14 3/8 inches overall, with a 9 3/4 inch blade etched with Imperial Navy designs, a "hammered" brass cross guard with retention clip and disc quillions, original ivory grip with gilt ribbon wrap, a Nazi eagle pommel, and a hammered brass sheath with oak leaf suspension bands.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The blade has been lightly cleaned, with some scratches and spotting, the button is absent from the retention clip, the grip shows some mild age cracking and fine aged color, the ribbon is frayed slightly, and the sheath shows a number of dents as well as a 2 inch crack in the obverse side between the tip and the lower band.
