Description:

Remington manufactured approximately 14,000 of these No. 3 Vest Pocket Pistols between 1865 and 1888; of those only a small number were factory engraved. Approximately 5% of the production run had higher end grips instead of the standard walnut or rosewood panels. This example has factory style scroll engraving and punch dot backgrounds on the sides of the frame and light geometric designs on the back strap and butt. It is fitted with smooth grips with hand markings on the underside including "169". The matching serial number is also stamped on the bottom of the barrel and the left side of the grip frame.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel has a mottled gray patina with patches of pitting and traces of the original nickel plating at the junction with the frame. The frame retains 85% plus of the original nickel plating with some patches of oxidation and some scrapes. The barrel markings are obscured/faded, but the engraving patterns remain crisp. The slightly undersized grips are very good with some slight age cracks and attractive creamy tones. The action is fine.
