Description:

These distinctive American revolvers were manufactured by James Reid of Catskill, New York in several variations from the late 1860s until the early 1880s. Manufactured in approximately 1870, this is an early production example of the .32 caliber My Friend Knuckle Duster with a trapdoor in the frame for adjusting the mainspring tension and safety device under the cylinder. The left side of the top strap is marked "MY FRIEND PAT'D. DEC. 26, 1865". It has a silver plated brass frame with standard scroll and punch dot engraving on the sides, wavy border lines on the top strap, and a starburst pattern above a sharply checkered panel on the back strap.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The frame has traces of silver plating with otherwise an even aged patina on the brass while the remaining components have a gray patina with some spots of light pitting. The action is fine, and the markings and engraving patterns are crisp.
