Description:

This late 19th century rifle is marked "W. GRIFFITHS MANCHESTER" on the barrel, "HENRY'S/PATENT/A No.23" on the action at the breech, and "W. GRIFFITHS" on the back action lock plate which is on the left side of the rifle. It has a blade front and folding leaf rear sights on blocks and is fitted with a checkered walnut forearm and straight wrist stock with shotgun butt. Standard grade rifles made by W. Griffiths were not serial numbered but an "18" (assembly mark) is on part of the falling block components. There is no cartridge designation, but appears to be a 450 Nitro Express 3 1/4.

Rating Definition:

Very good as period refinished. The rifle retains much of the blue finish with some light pitting showing under the blue and has primarily a gray patina on the other components along with some light spotting/pitting and faint markings. The wood is very good with crisp checkering, attractive figure, and only minor dings and marks. Some of the markings are obscured, but they are identifiable. The action is excellent.
