Description:

Manufactured in 1887. The Model 183 rifle has the integral dust cover rail, dust cover with serrated edges and concealed trigger pin. The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line address and King's Improvement dates ahead of the rear sight and "44 W.C.F." at the breech. The bottom of the brass cartridge elevator is marked "44 CAL" in script letters. The serial number is stamped on the lower tang. It has a dovetailed blade front sight, adjustable rear buckhorn sporting sight on the barrel and is fitted with a mid range tang mounted peep sight. Blue finish with casehardened hammer, lever and buttplate and is mounted with a smooth oil finished walnut forearm with steel end cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate with compartment, (cleaning rod not included). The accompanying factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, round barrel, plain trigger, that it was received in the warehouse on August 23, 1887 and shipped to order number 153 on October 12, 1887.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The rifle retains 85% plus bright original blue finish with some muzzle and high edge wear, some thinning on the magazine tube and underside of the receiver, some minor oxidation on the upper edge of the receiver and on the dust cover, and some minor scratches and handling marks. 70% of the original bright case colors remain on the hammer, and the lever retains most of the vivid original case colors with a smooth silver gray patina on the balance. The buttplate has a smooth mottled gray patina. The wood is also very fine with most of the original varnish remaining, and scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
