Description:

William Buchele produced a small number of high end long rifles in the 1960s and 1970s and many regard him as one of the finest Kentucky rifle makers of the period. He also published Recreating the Kentucky Rifle and was known to be very helpful for other budding makers of classic American firearms. This rifle is signed "W. Buchele" on the barrel and "Buchele" on the lock. It has intricate detailing throughout including relief scroll and wing style designs on the stock, detailed engraving on the eh ornate patch box including a eagle motif finial, and star on the cheekpiece. It is equipped with a single set trigger, German silver blade front sight, and notch rear sight. Very similar Frederick Sell rifles are pictured on page 413 and 414 of Thoughts on the Kentucky Rifle in Its Golden Age.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as custom made. The rifle retains 90% of the thinning brown finish. The frizzen has some strike marks. The brass has an attractive "aged" patina. The stock is also very fine with crisp designs, beautiful striping, and an attractive honey tone. There is a faint repaired crack below the cock. The rifle otherwise has only minor handling/storage marks. The action needs some adjustments. The markings and designs are distinct throughout.
