This is an exceptional example of a late pattern Model 1885 off-hand target rifle that has been fitted with a Winchester A5 target scope. This rifle was manufactured some time after 1915 (the specific date cannot be determined using available records).The #4 heavy weight target barrel has the standard "MANUFACTURED BY THE/WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A." and caliber "32-40" markings both offset to the side of the barrel. The "WP" proofs are directly in front of the rear scope base. The barrel is fitted with a Winchester windage adjustable globe front sight and a rear dovetail filler block. It is fitted with a tang mounted mid-range Vernier peep sight and a Winchester A5 scope in standard Winchester mounts. It has the standard double set triggers, the late pattern double curl loading lever, a double prong all blued buttplate, and a late pattern deluxe checkered pistol grip stock with late style double shadow line cheekpiece and forearm with the ebony insert.

Excellent with 95% plus of the original blue overall. The markings are clear and distinct. 60% of the case colors remain on the lever mostly in the protected areas, and the balance of has faded to a silver gray. The scope has good optics that are a little cloudy and might need a good cleaning. The stock and forend are both in excellent condition and show minimal handling marks overall and exceptional highly figured grain and nice checkering. The sides of the upper and lower receiver tangs and inside the forend and buttplate are all unnumbered. This is an excellent example of a late production High Wall Schuetzen rifle.
