An estimated fewer than 1,000 of these No. 3 Match rifles were manufactured between approximately 1883 and 1907. This example is a "B" quality gun with a spirit globe front sight, modern replacement Vernier tang peep sight, and fine multi-point checkering on the deluxe walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with large cheekrest. It is also equipped with double set triggers which were a desirable special order feature. The barrel is marked "REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION NY" on top just before the transition to round. The bottom of the barrel has the matching serial number, another number (likely the assembly number) and caliber markings. The matching serial number is also marked on the rear of the forearm, on the lower tang, and on the underside of the Swiss buttplate. The left side of the action has the two-line Hepburn patent marking. The barrel and sights are blued. The action is casehardened, and the Schnabel forearm tip and buttplate are nickel plated. Towards the rear of the forearm there is a hole drilled and a brass plate added to allow the rifle to be fitted with a palm rest (not included).

Fine. The rifle retains 80%of the original blue and nickel finishes with some slight edge and handling wear and some slight spotting. The action retains 60% plus of the original case colors with some brown patina forming. The wood is fine as slightly modified on the bottom of forearm for palm rest with some light scratches and pressure marks from use, and otherwise sharp checkering and smooth surfaces. The action need's work as the side lever is loose in the action and may fall out. The markings are mostly crisp.
