Description:

Manufactured between 1868 and 1890, this rifle has German silver blade front and adjustable rear sights on a heavy octagon barrel marked "44 CTG'E" on the bottom flat just ahead of the forend and "3126" and "ST" under the forearm. The "ST" is a correct marking given the single set trigger. The forearm, buttstock, and lower tang are also marked with the matching serial number. "28430" is marked on the left side of the tangs. The upper tang is also marked "REMINGTONS ILION N.Y. U.S.A./PAT'S MAY 3D 1864/ MAY 7TH JUNE 11TH NOV 12TH/DEC 24TH-31ST 1872 SEPT 9TH 1873 JUNE 13TH 1874". The stock and forend are smooth oil stained walnut with a straight grip, rounded flats at the junctions with the frames, and a casehardened Schnabel forearm tip and curved buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. The rifle retains 30% of the faded original blue finish and case colors with a brown patina forming on the barrel and particularly strong case colors in the protected areas under the stock. There is some light spotting throughout. The wood is very good with light scratches, a few minor pressure marks, and some small chips at the front of the frame. The action remains excellent, and the markings are crisp.
