Description:

This Peter W. Kraft rifle was produced in the 1850s-1860s. Kraft was trained in Germany prior to emigrating to the United States. During the Civil War, Kraft, Goldschmidt, and Kraft and produced firearms, knives, and Confederate swords and also sold a variety of related goods. The barrel has globe front and folding leaf notch rear sights, "P. W. KRAFT COLUMBIA. S.C." on top, a gold banded breech, and a gold accented bolster. It has scroll engraving, game scenes on the patch box and lock, an adjustable peep sight, a single set trigger, and a half stock with a horn forend tip, checkered wrist and raised cheekpiece. Included with the rifle is a wooden ramrod, a cleaning rod, bullet mold, pouch of ball ammunition, Remington Arms Company-UMC tins of percussion caps, ball starter, a couple patches, powder measure, a wrench, and some small parts.

Rating Definition:

Good. The rifle primarily has faded brown finish and a brown patina with scattered minor marks and spotting. The stock is fine with crisp checkering, a small section absent near the bolster, and overall minor dings and scratches. The globe front and tang peep sight are much later 20th Century additions, and the front ramrod pipe is a replacement. The action is fine, and the designs and markings are generally clear.
