Description:

This 19th century rifle has a lock engraved with a bird scene and marked with an unclear banner. The barrel is marked "E.W. COOK LOCKPORT N.Y. 380". Near the breech is a faint marking with only "INGTO" visible suggesting the barrel was produced by E. Remington. E. W. Cook fought in the Civil War including at Antietam and was captured twice but managed to escape and rejoin the fight. Several of his rifles used the same patch box style seen here. This rifle is equipped with a large brass blade front sight, fixed notch rear sight and matching numbered tang peep sight. The muzzle is turned down for the included brass bullet starter. The straight wrist half stock has a checkered wrist, patch box, and a trigger guard with grip extension. Included with the rifle is a wooden ramrod with brass tip.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel is mostly dull and has streaks of brown. The lock has a dark brown patina. There are spots of pitting and oxidation. The remaining components have an aged patina with some darker residue. The stock is fine with nice varnish, sharp checkering and several light marks and scratches. The action remains excellent.
