Description:

Produced between 1850 and 1870 and featuring Deringer's signature "bronzed" barrel finish, a rich brown with gray streaking, intended to simulate a Damascus twist. This finish is completely absent from all but the best preserved Deringer pistols. Fixed sights, with ''DERINGER/PHILADELA'' and "P" marked on the breech, flanked with inlaid bands of silver. The Deringer address is repeated on the lock plate with scroll engraving on the lock, hammer, tang, bolster, and furniture, which is a mix of attractive German and coin silvers. Fitted with a finely checkered bird's head walnut stock with a wooden ramrod and a cap box in the butt.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus, with 98% of the bright original bronzed finish turning gray on the muzzle, a pencil-width patch of minor pitting on the right side and sharply defined gray lines. The silver and casehardened components are properly aged with a smooth silvered tone to the casehardening, a fine dark patina to the silver, and the barrel bands a deep untouched antique black. The grip is very good with a 1 3/4 inch crack along the left side, mild dents and varnish loss, and attractive grain and checkering. Mechanically very good with both stop notches solid and good tension in the mainspring. A top-rate example of the Philadelphia Deringer.
