Description:

Manufactured circa 1850-1870. Brass blade front and fixed notch rear sights, with gold bands on the breech flanking the markings "P" and "DERINGER/PHILADELA''. As is proper for a Philadelphia Deringer, the barrel is finished in Henry Deringer's gray streaked "bronzed" faux-Damascus finish, and the address stamp encroaching on the front breech band, "R" and "A" clearly stamped into the gold. Fine scroll engraving is present on a number of parts. Excluding the German silver buttplate, reverse plate and inscription shield, and the iron capbox lid, the furniture on the checkered bird's head walnut stock is silver, with small "V" stamps on the rear trigger guard quillion and the front of the grip.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel shows 70% plus of the original bronzed striped finish with a few light handling marks and well defined streaking. A rich niter blue is present on the trigger, and a section of bright case color was preserved around and beneath the hammer. A series of 4 tiny notches have been added to the left side of the trigger, meaning unknown. A fine dark patina is forming on the silver components. The repaired stock is good with a crack running between the breech and the reverse plate screw, a small amount of filler around the buttplate and barrel tang and minor handling marks overall. Mechanically good.
