This Allen & Thurber pepperbox was produced in Worchester, Massachusetts between 1847 and 1865. The action and screwed on nipple shield display factory scroll engraving patterns. The hammer is marked "ALLEN'S PATENT/1845" on the left, and the barrel group is marked with "ALLEN & THURBER WORCHESTER". "119" is marked on the left side of the main spring, grip strap, inside of the trigger guard, rear of the barrel group between the nipples, and on the inside of each grip panel. The inside of the trigger guard, grip strap, and barrel group also have a "0". It is fitted with bag shaped walnut grips. The left grip has a silver oval plaque marked "Lieut./of the S.W. Division/CITY".

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. The pepperbox has a mostly brown patina with some oxidation and pitting and 30% of the original blue finish on the barrel cluster. The grips are also very good with some dents and scratches. The silver plaque is lightly tarnished with fine inscription. The markings and most of the designs are crisp. The action is fine.
