Description:

The Model 1897 rifles and carbines were produced by Remington circa 1897-1917. This example is one of the many Model 1897s purchased by the Republic of Mexico. It has the desirable "REPUBLICA MEXICANA" and Mexican golden eagle emblem marking on the receiver bridge that indicates purchased by Mexico. It is also marked with the three line Remington address and patent information on the upper tang and the serial number on the lower tang. It is equipped with a dovetailed blade front sight and a folding ladder rear sight. The single barrel band has a sling swivel on the right while the saddle ring is fitted to the left side of the action. It has a carbine forearm and a straight wrist stock with the Mexican golden eagle emblem on each side of the butt.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The metal surfaces display an artificial gray-brown patina overall with some pitting, oxidation, and scrapes. The raised relief carved customized and refinished wood is fair. The handguard is absent and there are cracks, chips, and dings primarily on the buttstock. The Mexican Coat of Arms inspired carving is very crisp. It mechanically needs some work but is functional. The markings are legible.
