This pepperbox was manufactured by Allen & Thurber between 1847 and 1854 in Worchester, Mass. It has a longer than usual, wide ribbed barrel group marked "ALLEN & THURBER WORCHESTER" on one rib, and "ALLEN'S PATENT/1845" is on the left side of the hammer. The trigger guard has a spur. The nipple shield and frame have factory style floral and scroll designs. The matching serial number is marked on the barrel group between the nipples, inside of the nipple shield, the left side of the mainspring and grip frame, and the underside of the smooth grips.

Good as refinished. The barrel group which displays an artificial gray patina with some brown, small spots of light pitting, and traces of original finish. The replated frame retains nearly all of the silver plating and has a dark aged patina. The grips are good with some small chips and numerous vertical dark age cracks. The action is fine, and the markings and designs are mostly crisp.
