Description:

This custom engraved Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver has the matching serial number followed by or preceded by "IE" on most of the major components. The "I" marking was put on revolvers fitted with ivory grips in the 1860s to early 1870s, and the "E" was used in the same period to denote factory engraving. The intricate scroll and punch dot designs are clearly inspired by the work of Gustave Young and incorporate an eagle head design above the wedge on the right, dog head on the hammer, second dog head above the wedge on the right, a second eagle head at the center of the scroll work on the right side rear of the frame, and some small floral blooms. The revolver has the "NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA" barrel address, and the "COLT'S/PATENT" marking is hand engraved on the left side of the frame. The trigger guard is marked "44 CAL" on the left side. The cylinder has the standard naval battle scene. The revolver comes in a modern hardwood case with English fit interior that contains a brass powder flask, oiler, Colt patent dual cavity bullet mold, and an Eley Bros. tin for caps.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as engraved and refinished. The revolver retains over 50% of the blue finish and 85% of the case colors and silver plating. The silver and the brass have an aged patina. The grip is very fine with some minor marks and an attractive aged patina. The action is excellent. The custom case is very good with minor storage wear, and the accessories are fine to very good.
