Description:

This revolver is one of only approximately 2,000 of these conversions manufactured circa 1873-1875 and has been custom engraved and silver plated. It has the two line 1871 and 1872 patent marking on the left side of the frame, "36 CAL" on the left side of the trigger guard, the two-line Hartford address on the barrel, and the stagecoach hold up scene on the rebated cylinder. It has full coverage scroll and punch dot engraving patterns on the frame that extend on to the rear breech and muzzle sections of the barrel and part of the back strap and trigger guard. The hammer has a Gustave Young style dog head design. The shell patterns on the sides and top of the back strap are executed in his style which heavily influenced the style of Colt engraving well after his death. Note that the hammer design is a near match to the Pocket Navy percussion revolver pictured on page 144 of "The Book of Colt Engraving" by R. L. Wilson. It has a smooth "one piece" style grip. Matching serial numbers on the frame, barrel, trigger guard, backstrap and wedge.

Rating Definition:

Fine as custom engraved (in factory pattern) and silver plated. The revolver retains 90% plus of the silver plating with has taken on an attractive tarnished patina overall. The grips are very fine with overall mild handling wear, some small age cracks on the edges of the left panel, and a few longer age cracks on the right. The action functions fine, and most of the markings and designs are crisp. An attractive custom engraved Colt Revolver!
