The Mitrailleuse pistols were manufactured by Manufacture Française d’Armes de Saint-Étienne in the 1890s before being renamed the Le Gaulois in approximately 1897. The renamed model was manufactured until the second decade of the 20th century. The right side of the frame is marked "MANUFACTURE FRANCAISE/D'ARMES DE ST ETIENNE" and the left side has a three position selector switch with French markings. "MITRAILLEUSE" is marked on top of the barrel rib followed by a serrated dust cover. It has an etched pattern on the frame sides, serrations on the front, and a checkered panel of mottled red/black hard rubber on the casehardened operating bar. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel, underside of the side plate, and on the inside of the action. It comes with an unmarked coin purse style holster.

Very good. 80% of the original nickel plating remains along with some traces of the faded case colors. There are some spots of oxidation and minor pitting. The plunger pad is fine and has a repaired crack, crisp checkering, and mild handling wear. Mechanically fine; the pistol hand cycles, but the follower is loose. All of the markings are crisp. The holster is fine with some staining and small tears.
