This rifle has a the "MODEL 1896" marking, "U.S./SPRINGFIELD ARMORY.", and the serial number on the left side of the receiver. It has the standard blade and folding ladder sights, and smooth walnut stock and handguard.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The rifle retains 30% of the thin original blue finish with a brown patina forming and half of the muted case colors. There is a brighter section at the muzzle indicative of bayonet use. The reoiled, lightly sanded wood is very fine with only a few scattered dings and slight scratches. The cartouche is restamped. The action is excellent. The markings including the cartouches are crisp.
