Description:

This S&W No. 2 revolver was manufactured early in the 1861 to 1874 production range and has the desirable early two pin top strap. The three pin top strap was introduced around serial number 3109 (this gun is 3108) but the two pin and three pin frame serial numbers overlap between 3109-3647. It has the standard one line S&W address on the rib, round blade and notch sights, smooth rosewood grips, and patent markings on the cylinder (faint). The serial number is marked on the butt. An "H" is marked on the back of the barrel lug and left side of the grip frame. The right grip panel is marked "50798". The included holster has "PAT'D APR 21, 1863" marked on the flap spring. The included copy of Augustus A. Bennett's "Improved Pistol-Holster" explains the designs. The spring keeps the flap closed and allows a user to quickly stow their weapon without having to mess with a flap clasp or strap. Also included is information on the No. 2 revolvers from the Ronald H. Curtis' project.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The revolver has a rust brown patina and patches of light pitting. The grips are fine replacements and have some chips at the toe and heel and moderate handling wear. The hinge has been repaired and the action needs some work. The holster is in very good condition with overall crackling and some flaking particularly on the flap. The spring has 40% original blue with the balance primarily a brown patina. The patent marking is clearly legible. The ultimate holster for the Smith & Wesson No. 2 collector!
