Description:

This absolutely beautiful Colt Single Action Army Frontier Six Shooter was specifically produced for the Colt Collectors Association meeting auction in Reno, Nevada, on October 6, 2007. The included factory letter details the following information concerning its genesis: The one piece grip was "custom fit by Dan Chesiak and carved by K. Dennis Holland. The left panel is carved with wild Nevada fighting Mustangs. The right panel is carved with a rendition of the Nevada Comstock Silver Mine." The metal preparation work was completed by Turnbull Restorations, and the high polish blue finish was applied by Mark Crockett. It was master engraved by Tim George of Altavista, Virginia, and has "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" etched on the left side of the barrel and the gold inlaid one line address on top with "gold inlaid line border with the famous Colt factory dome contours at each end." The three line patent dates are on the left side of the blackpowder style frame, and the hammer has the "first generation style knurling." It is beveled at the trigger guard, extra wide cylinder flutes, and ejector rod and has "qualified screws." It is equipped with a gold inlaid tendril design skeletonized blade front sight and has the unique serial number "CCA 2007" on the bottom of the frame, "CCA 2007 RENO" on the ejector housing in a gold banner, and a pair of gold bands at the muzzle and breech, rear of the ejector housing, and rear edge of the cylinder. Note the Nevada silver mining themed engraving and gold and silver inlaid details in the photographs including the "THE SILVER STATE" inlaid in silver on the back strap and "ENGR BY T. GEORGE" marked on the front of the frame. It comes in an "Exhibition Museum Grade Case" from Les Yoder of Brookfield Inc. styled after an old Wells Fargo trunk. The cherry case has a carved design of "THE RAMPANT COLT MINE" executed by Jose Valencia on top of the lid, an "Exhibition grade Argentium silver oval die cut description plate" engraved by Master Engraver Michael W. Dubber marked in 19th century jeweler style fonts, pinned leather straps, French fit green felt interior, mirror on the inside of the lid, and a barrel post for displaying the revolver upright. The case contains a "three-piece silver plated accessory tool set" engraved by Master Engraver "Michael W. Dubber with scrolls, the Rampant Colt Logo, and engraved ferrules." It also contains "The Jewel of the Desert" (a turquoise Nevada nugget with silver matrix), a .7 ounce silver nugget (content unknown), an antique style lock and key. A "custom 1880 period antiqued holster rig with silver buckle and retainer, M. Shelhart & Co. Mexican double loop holster, " 24 inert 44-40 cartridges, and "COLT COLLECTORS ASSOCIATION 2007 RENO, NV" burned into the backside of the 40 inch belt are also part of the set. Four copies of the Fall 2007 issue of "The Rampant Colt" journal which have the revolver on the cover and contains an article by Mike Dubber discussing the revolver and those involve in its creation are included; one copy is signed by multiple people involved in the project. This lot also contains a large framed print of the cover image, the map used as the background for the photograph, original records from the creation of the revolver, the original factory box and shipping sleeve, a copy of an 1871 wanted poster, a "LUNING CONSOLIDATED SILVER MINES CO." stock certificate (not filled out), a replica Wells Fargo & Co. stagecoach receipt, a 1934 copy of The Saga of the Comstock Lode: Boom Days in Virginia City by George Lyman, and Views and Vignettes of Virginia City in My Day by Dorothy Young Nichols. This revolver is pictured on page 159 of Roger Bleile’s book American Engravers: The 21st Century. Master Engraver Tim George of Altavista, Virginia, and his wife Christie also engraved the outstanding Colt Collectors Association 1999 San Francisco show gun.

Rating Definition:

Near new. The revolver, case, rig, and accessories have only minor handling and storage type marks. There is some patina on the case inscription plate.
