Description:

Produced from 1936 to 1950, this Model 81 was special ordered as a Grade E "Expert" rifle with a master-quality hand-fitting, fancy checkered walnut furniture and fine American scroll engraving performed by the Remington Custom Shop. This was the second highest grade of work the Custom Shop performed on the Model 81. Blade front and adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sights, with the two-line address on top of the barrel shroud, geometric patterns behind the rear sight, and a 3 3/4 inch wedge of punch-dot backed scrollwork on either side of the breech. Additional scrollwork covers about 70% of the receiver with hand-cut serial numbers and "GRADE E" markings on the underside of the receiver and the lower tang, a scene of a snarling bear on a hillside on the right side beneath the safety switch and a bugling elk on the left side ahead of the bolt release. The forearm and pistol grip stock are both checkered high-grade walnut with sling swivel studs on the barrel shroud and buttstock, a Remington hard rubber grip cap, silver inscription panel and a Hawkins-brand vented recoil pad. Three non-factory filler screws are present on the left side of receiver where a scope mount once was fitted (not included).

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the original blue finish showing some scattered light spotting and handling marks overall. A few scuffs and dents are visible on the barrel shroud and muzzle, and mild edge wear is on the receiver. The stock is fine with scattered pressure dents, scratches around the lower tang and a crack in the baseplate of the recoil pad. Mechanically excellent.
